NOTES

  1. COLBY - Ballacosney
  2. Wife of James Mylroie snr, who was the younger son of David Mylroie snr & Margaret Kermott als Killey
  3. James and Elinor had 7 children with some kind of record: BAPTISM - James jnr (1788), Margaret (1791), John (1793), William (1796), Elinor (1801), Joseph (1805). PROBATE & MI - a Thomas, with no baptismal record, mentioned in a Settlement document in 1839, and died in 1840 with his parents James & Elinor administering his estate
  4. A Daniel was also recorded as being born to James & Margaret Skillicorn but this was probably the individual who married Mary Ann Tear, and was the son of James's brother David. This child was baptised one month after Joseph which also suggests that Daniel was not in James's family and his record of baptism a transcription/vicar error
  5. From Margaret's will, four of their children were still alive: James (married Ann Kewley), Margaret (married William Kewley), Elinor (married John Cowley 1830, Thomas Killip 1841) and Joseph (married Margaret Kinread)
  6. Son John died 1817 aged 24; Thomas died in 1840; nothing is known of the fate of son William but presumably he did not survive infancy
  7. Both sons, James and Joseph, received settlements from their parents, James in 1828 and Joseph from his mother in 1841. Their relationship seemed tense over the division of lands
  8. James snr was buried 24th June 1842. He was 77 years of age (although the burial register notes 80 years); Elinor buried 1 April 1850 aged 88
